What You Should Know Before You Register for an Exam

Registration for the Certification Exams and The IICL online courses are available at the IICL Learning Center “Education | IICL Education Module

The IICL Inspector Certification Examinations are computer-based, closed book exams delivered at test centers around the world. Each exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions. The Dry Van and Refrigerated Container Exams are available in English, Spanish, or Chinese, while the Chassis exam is only available in English.

The time allowance for candidates to take the exams are as follows:

  • Dry Van Containers – 2 hours
  • Container Chassis – 2 hours
  • Refrigerated Containers – 2.5 hours

IICL certifications are valid for 5 years. Each certification grants the inspector a “Star” on the certificate provided the lapse between certifications is less than 12 months. Each person interested in taking an exam must do the following:

  1. create an IICL user account, register for the examination of interest.
  2. select a specific location, date and time to participate in the examination(s).

The IICL offers two online training courses to assist the Dry Van Container exam takers and professionals that want to expand their knowledge on the topics related to dry cargo containers.

The training modules were developed to assist people interested in expanding their knowledge about container inspections and repairs as well as to assist in preparing for the IICL exams. The courses address and highlight important topics that inspectors, repair workers, and personnel involved with maintenance and repair of containers should be aware of.

NOTE: IICL Training Courses are NOT a substitute for inspector certification exams. All who wish to receive an IICL inspector’s certification will need to register online and participate in the IICL Dry Van Container, Refrigerated Container, or Chassis Inspector Certification Examinations.

The IICL has created “Exam Simulators” that can be downloaded by anyone that wants to assess its knowledge and level of preparation for the Dry Van and Refrigerated Container exams. The simulators are available for download at "Prepare for the Exam - IICL Exam Simulators - IICL."

 

IICL Examination Refund Policies and Cancellation Schedule

Requests for refunds must be submitted within 60 days of the payment date.
No refunds will be granted after 60 days from the payment date.
All refunds are subject to an administrative fee of $100.00 USD

To request a refund, candidates must submit their request via email to info@iicl.org and provide the following information:

  1. Name
  2. Email address or IICL member ID number

 

Substitutions

If a candidate is unable to sit for the exam and wishes to substitute another candidate from the same company for the examination, the substitute candidate must e-mail info@iicl.org the substitutes name, email address or IICL member ID number along with the current candidates name, email address and IICL member ID number. The original exam candidate must also be copied in on the email.
